Nor'Easter OCR: Out of Hibernation

Nor'Easter OCR's second season is off to a strong start with many impressive finishes, podium placements, and team wins. Team members have run a spectrum of events, from short obstacle races that involved carrying two Christmas trees through a golf course, to gnarly, overnight mountain races that were over 70 miles long with 40,000 feet of elevation gain. Our members all bring different strengths that combine to challenge the competition at any race.

The season began with Blizzard Blast on January 31st in Dracut, MA, a 6 mile obstacle course that was flat, fast, and featured a variety of creative obstacles. Competitors swung from and carried kegs, dragged Christmas trees, and cralwed through windows of cars. Nor'Easter OCR's Joshua Fiore finished 2nd place and was closely followed by his teammates Jim Delorie, Shane Leighton, Kiaran McCormack, and Kevin Gregory in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 9th place respectively. Nor'Easter OCR grabbed our first team win of the season, beating the second place team by over 9 minutes.

Following this impressive finish, team members Michael Miraglia, Jim Delorie, Kiaran McCormack, and Ryan Josti flew down to Atlanta, GA during the first week of March to take on the Spartan Sprint. Saturday's top finishes from the team were Jim Delorie in 7th, Michael Miraglia in 10th, and Kiaran McCormack in 12th. On Sunday, Michael Miraglia got his first Spartan podium finish of the season by finishing in 3rd place. Kiaran McCormack fought it out with Michael all the way to the fire jump and came in 4th with Jim Delorie behind him in 11th. Nor'Easter OCR went home with two more team victories by winning the team competition with a margin of over 8 minutes on Saturday and over 10 minutes on Sunday.

Georgia was a popular place in March, as Nor'Easter OCR member Joshua Fiore was a strong competitor in the Georgia Death Race. Josh ran approximately 72 mountain miles, which included 40,000 feet in elevation gain, finishing in a blazing 16:38:41. This impressive time put him in 32nd place out of 162 finishers. The race was so brutal, 50 people dropped out. Josh's performance qualifies him to race in the prestigious Western States 100.

Over the next couple of weeks, Nor'Easter OCR members will be racing at F.I.T Challenge, Charlotte Spartan Sprint, and Citi Field Spartan (Stadium) Sprint.
