It was easy being green this weekend at Spartan Race in Barre, MA.
Nor'Easter OCR is officially based in Worcester, MA. We were excited to welcome Spartan Race to our backyard for two days of racing. While each day was markedly different due to weather conditions, the weekend brought many high placements for our athletes.
Saturday was a hot and sunny day that caused a few people to overheat and even throw up in their bucket during "bucket brigade". Saturday's Race had some tough competition that included Ryan Kempson and 2x WTM Champion Junyong Pak. Our team raced hard and finished with Josh Fiore in 3rd , Miles Bartlett in 4th, Kiaran McCormack in 5th, James Delorie in10th, Michael Miraglia in16th, Shane Leighton in 20th, and Kevin Gregory in 32nd for the men. On the women's side we had Kelly Sullivan in 18th, Jeanelle Demers in 28th, and Deanna McCormack in 34th.
Sunday's weather was much different and we saw rain for almost the whole day, making some of the obstacles more difficult. Spectators and racers alike noticed the increasing amount of competitors slipping off of obstacles like the monkey bars and Z-wall. On the other hand, the trails became much more defined and racers were generally able to keep a faster pace on their runs than the previous day. This worked out well for our team and we were able to sweep the men's elite podium with Kiaran McCormack coming in 1st, Michael Miraglia in 2nd, and Shane Leighton in 3rd.
The announcer commented that he had never seen a men's elite podium consist entirely of racers from the same team. If that wasn't enough, Kelly Sullivan finished 2nd for the women's elite to add some more green to the podium. Other impressive finishes by Nor'Easter OCR members were Miles Bartlett in 8th, Jeanelle Demers in 10th, Jim Delorie in 12th, and Kevin Gregory in 19th.
